Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) are embedded in the multi agency Challenger team to tackle organised crime, our organisation  supports the partnership aim to reduce crime and disorder across Greater Manchester and to protect our communities including the most vulnerable individuals within them. The Challenger partnership allows us to collaboratively work towards making our communities a safer place, to enhance the quality of life for members of the public and for victims of organised crime. Being part of the multi-agency  Challenger team allows GMFRS to have a clearer understanding of the impact of modern slavery and trafficking across Greater Manchester and be at the heart of responding to community risk and safeguarding the people of Greater Manchester against such crimes.

GMFRS must make provisions for promoting fire safety, including fire prevention and have. locally determined risk-based inspection programme in place for enforcing compliance with the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in premises to which it applies.

Working collaboratively with our partners at Challenger allows us to respond to risk effectively and where necessary restrict or prohibit the use of properties that may be in breach of Fire Safety Order (FSO). Under the FSO authorised Inspectors have the power to identify responsible people, inspect premises and take records. This may result in enforcement action, which will ultimately make premises safer with regard to the risk of fire. 

As a multi-agency partner of the Challenger team we hope to support raising the profile of the Challenger by working in partnership, sharing information and ultimately preventing fire incidents associated with organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.
